Virginia Beach, Va. - Beach weekend 2014 is here and the college students in town say so far this year is better than last.

“Less violence. It’s more fun than last year it wasn`t that fun, it was more violence. It`s very relax," a beach visitor told NewsChannel3.

Police haven't been relaxing, last night from 9:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m. police responded to 154 calls.

Last night at the Oceanfront police say there was one major incident which was an armed robbery at the Hilton Hotel.

Police have made 15 arrests so far.

Beach visitors say they've noticed more police are on the streets this year. That was the plan for Virginia Beach police this year.

More than 800 officers are on the Oceanfront this weekend. Some are posted at nearly every intersection controlling the crowds and the traffic. Others are on their bikes or walking, keeping an eye for anything out of the ordinary.

Oceanfront businesses have hired extra security as well and say this is how Beach Week should be.

“Been going smoothly for all the cops and everything much more secure," Carlos Robles, a worker at the Oceanfront, said. “I think it`s going to get a little bit wild after it gets dark."

NewsChannel3 currently has crews at the Oceanfront.
