A safe that was stolen from the Currituck BBQ Company in December was recovered by divers in Dare County on Tuesday.

The break-in was reported to the Currituck County Sheriff’s Office on December 2nd.

Surveillance video showed one woman and two men enter the business through a side door and remove a safe from the office area.

Sgt. Wayne Twiford, Capt. Sandy Casey, Deputy Chris Doxey and Det. Tim Maurer from the Currituck Sheriff’s Office along with Jeremy Newns of Elite Divers went to the first bridge in the 1299 blk. Colington Road in Kill Devil Hills, and using the Currituck County Sheriff’s Office boat with side scan sonar, they were able to locate the safe in about 8 feet of water.

One of the men has been arrested for the theft. The recovery of the safe, along with other information discovered during the investigation will lead to three other individuals being charged.

Warrants are pending and will be released at a later date.
