Happy Birthday, Chesapeake!

That’s how the Chesapeake Jubilee came to be when Mayor Marion Whitehurst suggested that the “relatively young city” celebrate its 20th anniversary with a birthday party.

The first Jubilee was held May 1983 in Greenbrier Mall. One of the events’ highlights was a gigantic birthday cake built by the city’s firefighters. The candles were lit with gas.

Fast forward 31 years later and the Jubilee is still the “most exciting, and best, deal in town”, some locals say.

A single access pass is $5, and an anytime pass that runs for the duration of the event is $9. Rides are extra, but unlimited ride wristbands and tickets are available for purchase, on site parking is $5 and the concerts are free.
