Today Newschannel three proudly honors Aviation Machinists Mate First Class Charles Howse.
He's pictured here with his wife of 71 years. They just celebrated their wedding anniversary yesterday!
Howse was a turret gunner assigned to composite squadron 95 during world war two.
He flew more than 200 combat missions in the war in Europe. During the invasion of north Africa, he had to bail out of his aircraft over enemy territory, and walk all night to reach safety.
In 1944, he was plucked from a rubber life raft after his plane crashed in the north Atlantic.
For all his combat missions he earned a total of 23 air medals and 5 distinguished flying crosses.
Howse has six children, 11 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and one great-great grandson.
We thank him for his service.
