Fire at Norfolk State residence hall quickly contained

A fire at a Norfolk State University residence hall was quickly contained on Friday afternoon.

The fire was reported at Babbette Smith Hall on the 5th floor.

Students were evacuated from the building and sent to other residence halls across campus.

The building suffered minor water damage.

University officials are clearing the area. Students are expected to return within the next 48 hours.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
