Virginia Beach, Va. (WTKR) – Two days after beloved Oceanfront pharmacist David Kilgore was shot inside, the Laskin Road pharmacy that bears his name reopened Wednesday.

Throughout the day, customers shuffled in and out of the double glass doors of the Beach Pharmacy that are now flanked with dozens of bright flowers, placed in tribute to Kilgore.

“He was wonderful. Everything everyone is saying about him is true. He was a genuine, kind caring human being,” customer Patty Lewis said.

Kilgore was killed during a robbery attempt Monday.

His death has left the Oceanfront community that he served reeling.

“I was heartbroken when I heard about it, I ran up here to the Shell Station because I was so worried. I didn't know what the rumor was and I was hoping and praying it wasn't David and I ran in there and they told me it was David who was shot,” Lewis remembers.

As customers shuffled out clutching prescriptions, many paused to admire the colorful flowers or place more of their own.

While their beloved pharmacist was no longer there, most believed this was how Dave would have wanted things to continue.

“I think he wanted his dream to continue on and I think the family and the staff is amazing to have returned here so quickly and I know he would be very proud,” Lewis said.
