WEDNESDAY MORNING UPDATE: The thunderstorm warning has expired, but the severe weather has caused several power outages in the area.
Thousands are now without power in several cities. Crews say high winds knocked out several trees, limbs and branches on wires. Dominion Power crews are now out assessing the damage. They do not have an estimated time of restoration right now.
Harpersville Road is blocked from Saunders Road to J Clyde Morris Blvd. due to a downed tree. Indian River Road in Virginia Beach has reopened, and power should be restored momentarily in that area.
(Tuesday, April 15, 2014) – A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for parts of Hampton Roads.
This includes Norfolk, Portsmouth, and Virginia Beach.
This warning has been issued until 8:30 p.m.
The National Weather Service indicated a line of thunderstorms capable of producing damaging winds in excess of 60 mph.
They say the storms will be near Norfolk State University, Virginia Wesleyan College and Cape Henry at around 8 p.m.
They will then move to Regent University and Kempsville at around 8:10 p.m. and Virginia Beach and Lynnhaven at 8:20 p.m.
