Newport News, Va. - A woman was shot overnight in Aqua Vista Apartments, police tell NewsChannel 3.

At about 1:07 a.m. on Tuesday, April 15, 2014, police and medics were dispatched to the 600 block of Aqua Vista Drive to a report of a shooting.

An 18-year-old Newport News woman inside the apartment had been struck in the facial area by a bullet that appeared to have traveled through a wall from an adjoining apartment, police say.

She was transported to a local hospital for treatment and, due to her injuries, was later transferred to a Richmond area hospital.

The injuries appear to be non-life threatening.

The early stages of the investigation have provided evidence suggesting that the bullet was fired from the next door apartment, police say.
