A Sriracha hot sauce production facility in Irwindale, California has been declared a public nuisance by a unanimous City Council decision.

The company has 90 days to make changes to the facility to stop the spicy odors coming from the plant that are causing residents to complain.

If they don’t comply, city officials can enter the plant and make changes themselves at the cost of the company.

The company’s attorney, John Tate, assured that they will have a plan in place by June 1st but also disputed the council’s finding showing that the odors created a public nuisance.

“They seemed to be in a hurry to find a violation, when the evidence last time we were here showed about 12 people from the entire city having a complaint. It seemed to be to be a bit heavy handed,” Tate told the Pasadena Star-News.

The Irwindale facility is the only Sriracha production facility in the United States.
