UPDATE: Man arrested in two bank robberies along Shore Drive

UPDATE: Virginia Beach Police made an arrest in an attempted robbery and robbery of two banks in Virginia Beach.

Police arrested 57-year-old Frederick Charles Witt of the 1000 block of West Ocean View Avenue in Norfolk. Witt was taken into custody at his home in Norfolk with the assistance of the Virginia Beach Police Warrant/Fugitive Unit. He is charged with Robbery and Attempted Robbery. He is currently being held without bond at the Virginia Beach Correctional Center.

Virginia Beach, Va. - Police are investigating two bank robberies that occurred Tuesday morning along a stretch of Shore Drive.

The first robbery happened at approximately 9:51 a.m at the BB&T branch located at 2993 Shore Drive.

The second robbery occurred at the Wells Fargo located in the 2000 block of Shore Drive around 10:30 a.m.

In both cases, the suspect entered the bank and made demands to the teller. He then left the banks with an undisclosed amount of cash, police say.

The suspect is described as a white male, 30-40 years old, 5’9, approximately 130 pounds, with dark hair in a ponytail and dark sunglasses. He may be operating a dark SUV. In one of the robberies, he was wearing a pinstripe suit jacket and pants.
