UPDATE: Currituck Co. High briefly locked down after threat discovered; suspect identified

UPDATE: On Thursday, officials in Currituck County say they identified the person who is accused of writing a bomb threat inside of Currituck County High School.

They say the person arrested is under 16-years-old and they are not identifying the suspect. 

Petitions are on file charging the juvenile with making a false report concerning a destructive device. 

Currituck County, NC – Currituck County High School was placed on lock down Tuesday morning after a threat to the building was discovered.

School officials say the threat was written on the bathroom wall in the school.

Law enforcement was contacted and the building was locked down until a sweep could be conducted. Explosive detecting k-9s were also used to clear the school.

An alert message was sent to parents notifying them of the lock down.

Students were held on buses or directed to wait in their cars until the sweep was finished.

At approximately 9:00 a.m., the check was completed and it was determined that the building was safe.
