Newport News, Va. (WTKR) - Family and friends of a Newport News woman hit and killed by a truck last summer are begging for justice and closure.

Marcella Spain, 54, was crossing Warwick Boulevard near Hilltop Road on June 16, 2013 when she was hit and killed.

The truck that hit her was located, but no one has been charged so far.

Newport News Police are asking for help in deadly hit and run

"We can intuit that the registered owner of the vehicle would be the one that’s operating it but we need that proof for court," explained Newport News Police Department Crash Reconstruction Team Supervisor J.D. Pointer. "It does the family no justice to bring someone into court and have them get off on a technicality."

On Friday, Spain's husband, two of her daughters, pastor and friend gathered to plea for whoever killed her to come forward.

"This is my mother and you killed her. Just turn yourself in," pleaded Spain's daughter Joy Mathis.

"Whoever did it just left the scene and in my mind I can’t fathom how someone can do that. Most people that I know would treat animals better than that," said Spain's husband Walter Spain Jr.

"How can you just get up and just look at yourself in the mirror and think that it’s okay to just hit a human being and just keep on going and not stop," questioned Spain's daughter Charity Mathis.
