Virginia Beach, Va. - Misty Prewitt could not believe there were no security cameras inside the parking garages at Town Center. Sure, she understands the garage owner is not responsible for theft or damages, but what she doesn't understand is why there just isn't more security.

“The first thing that I said was I know exactly what my bag looks like. If you let me look at the surveillance cameras, I can pick out that bag out of nowhere we'll find it and he said, “No. There aren't any and I said what? Excuse me?” says Prewitt. “I'm a Virginia Beach native so I have loved to see what's happened here, and then to see where they have fallen short is disappointing.”

So we reached out to the owner of the four garages at Town Center, the City of Virginia Beach. The director of economic development, Rob Hudome says the city contracts out a company that has a security guard on premises 24/7 and security cameras are placed at each entrance and exit of the garages, but they are not spread out inside.

He says that would be a task too big that would cost too much.

But he does admit car break ins are becoming a growing problem at Town Center. In fact, there have been 21 car break ins in or around the area since January alone. Police are stepping up patrols and the city has sent out notices to those who live and work there.
