Newport News man charged with threatening to bomb a business

Newport News, Va. – A Newport News man is facing charges after threatening to bomb a business, police tell NewsChannel 3.

At about 1:40 p.m. on March 16, 2014, police responded to a business in the 12300 block of Hornsby Lane to a report of a threat being made to blow up the business.

Police say that around 10 a.m. that morning, the suspect, a 20-year-old Newport News man, was terminated and told to leave the property. He then became disorderly in front of customers and made threats to the manager, including threatening to blow up the business. At about 1:30 p.m. he returned to the business and again became disorderly and made threats to the manager.

20-year-old Austyn Brent Challis of the 300 block of Judy Drive in Newport News was charged with one count each of threat to bomb (felony), disorderly conduct, and trespassing (both misdemeanors).
