Hampton, Va. - A 22-year-old man is now charged with attempted capital murder after police say he bolted from them and fired shots at an officer on Tuesday. The officer also shot back but no one was hit.

Residents were urged to stay inside of their homes and two schools and a hospital were put on lockdown while police searched for Frederick Frimpong Foreson, Jr.

They received calls about a large fight at 3:11 p.m. and went out to the scene in the 2000 block of Cunningham Drive. When officers arrived, they found that the fight had broken up and they saw several people leaving.

Police say they approached Foreson, who they thought may have been involved, and they say he turned around and started shooting at the officer.

Officers were able to find Foreson after they say a man's apartment was broken into in the Liberty Estates Apartment Complex.

No one was injured.

Foreson is now in the custody of the Hampton Sheriff's Office.

Police are now running a criminal and internal investigation as a standard practice when an officer is involved in a shooting.
