It seems like the winter that just won’t quit. Less than a week from the start of Spring and we have yet another chance for snow in the forecast for Sunday night and Monday.

Here is the latest forecast as of Saturday afternoon… A cold front will move through the Mid-Atlantic tonight, bringing in colder air. On the tail end of that cold front an area of low pressure will move in for early next week. Like we have seen several times this year… cold air plus moisture equals wintry precipitation. Also, in typical Hampton Roads style we will be right on the line between rain and snow.

Most areas will see rain move in Sunday afternoon from SW to NE. As temperatures drop Sunday night rain will change to sleet/snow on the Peninsula, Middle Peninsula, Eastern Shore, and inland areas closer to I-95. Most of the coastal Southside and Northeastern North Carolina will see mainly rain. This similar pattern will continue for Monday morning. Precipitation will become more scattered by Monday afternoon.

Snow ForecastThe highest snow totals from this system will be in parts of Northern and Central Virginia. We are expecting accumulation for parts of the Peninsula, Middle Peninsula, and Eastern Shore.

The forecast as of Saturday afternoon…

2″-4″ for areas west of Williamsburg, northern Middle Peninsula, Northern Neck, and northern Eastern Shore.

1″-2″ for areas near Williamsburg, most of the Middle Peninsula, and the Central Eastern Shore.

Less than 1″ for parts of the inland Southside, Peninsula, and southern Eastern Shore.

Coastal Southside and Northeastern North Carolina will see mainly rain with the possibility of some sleet/snow mixing in but little to no accumulation expected.

NOTE: If colder air moves farther south, snow totals will increase and accumulation will move farther south. If colder air stays farther north, more areas will see rain and accumulations will drop. The forecast above is as of Saturday afternoon. Watch for updates here on WTKR.com.
