Suffolk, Va. – Right now, Suffolk police are investigating the undetermined death of a 50-year-old woman.

Dispatch says calls came in at around 4:23 p.m. on Thursday, March 13.

Police went to do a welfare check on the woman, identified as 50-year old Brenda Ashburn, in the 8200 block of Crittenden Road. They found her dead inside, along with two dogs, dead in the backyard.

Neighbors Ray and Mary Ann Langdon, tell NewsChannel 3 they hadn’t seen Brenda Ashburn in at least two months. Because they also didn’t hear the dogs barking, they assumed she moved out. Now the couple is dealing with the guilt, wishing they could have helped.

“I’m just sorry,” said Mary Ann Langdon crying, “I’m sorry that she passed away, she was by herself. That's sad.”

Suffolk Police have not determined the cause of her death, but they do not suspect foul play.
