Franklin, Va. – Two Franklin police officers saved a woman from her burning house Wednesday afternoon, police tell NewsChannel 3.

The officers were on Bracey Street in relation to a domestic call when Officer Quentin Livingston noticed smoke coming from 200 Bracey Street.

Officer Livingston and Sergeant Todd Lyons ran to the house, and upon opening the front door, they were met with thick smoke and flames.

The officers learned that a female was inside the residence, so they made entry and crawled along the floor searching for the resident. Officers located the woman on the couch in her living room unconscious. The officers carried her outside where it was discovered that she did not have a pulse and was not breathing. Officer Livingston immediately began performing CPR on the victim and she regained consciousness within a few minutes.

Sgt. Lyons, having knowledge of this residence, believed a child may have been in the house so he re-entered the home in an effort to locate the youth, but no child was located. It was later learned that the child had not been dropped off from school yet.

The victim of the fire has been identified as 56-year-old Magdeline Jenkins. She was originally taken to Southampton Memorial Hospital, but was transferred to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital for treatment.
