Suffolk, Va. – Peter M. Vanderlinden, a 30-year-old man, has been charged with grand larceny after police say he stole a vehicle from the Steeplechase neighborhood over the weekend.

They say on Feb. 22nd, a resident in the 5000 block of Hunt Club Chase reported that his Toyota Sienna had been stolen right out of his driveway. He says the vehicle was left unlocked with the keys inside.

The next day, police received a report about a vehicle that matched the description of the stolen vehicle. They were told that the vehicle was being driven recklessly.

They were able to recover the stolen vehicle in the Walgreen’s parking lot on the corner of Bridge Road and Shoulders Hill Road.

Vanderlinden was arrested and charged with grand larceny and possession of burglary tools. They say he also had several forms of ID that may  have been stolen from other vehicles.

He is now being held at Western Tidewater Regional Jail.

Police are now asking residents in the Bennetts Creek Park area who had items stolen from their unlocked vehicles to report it by calling the non-emergency number at 757-923-2350, option 0.
