A trash collector in Oregon is getting a lot of attention after a neighbor on his route witnessed his simple gesture of respect and kindness.

Jeremy Fischer spotted something a lot more important that a piece of trash.

“There’s a lot of sacrifice, a lot of hope, a lot of other stuff that is the American flag. I figured since so many people have died for that the least I could do was pick it up.”

Healways knows garbage truck cameras are always rolling, but he never told anybody about this and he didn’t know Nancy, a neighbor, was watching.

“I was looking out my window up here and I saw him carefully folding the flag over the garbage can and I thought, wow he’s going to fold it military style.”

“Folding it once, and then he kind of unwrapped it. Then he started folding it again.”

“I felt in my heart it was such a moment that nobody else was seeing,” says Nancy.

So she posted on the pride disposal company Facebook page about something Jeremy himself never told a soul.

“No one else saw this going on except me and God. And I shared this story several times. Thank you Mr. Garbage man. May God bless you.”

Nancy never met Jeremy, neither did the neighbor who got her flag back

“It’s just perfect,” she said.

Jeremy says he’d do it again just like he learned in boy scouts,

But just wants you to know,

He says this wasn’t about the attention.

“Honestly if I had my way, I wouldn’t be on TV,” Jeremy says.
