Houston we don't have a problem. That’s according to Jamison Randall, the Old Dominion golfer who finished 5 under to win the Rice Tournament Challenge while teammate Ashton Newsom finished 7th with a one over par.

NewsChannel 3 had a chance to catch up with the two of them before a Monday practice at Bayville Golf Club in Virginia Beach.

“A huge win for you in Houston as you make your last putt, tell me about the emotion of winning the tournament?” asked NewsChannel 3’s Kevin Rafferty.

"To be honest with you, I didn't know I won," said Randall.

"I didn't look at the leaderboard.  I knew when I made my tap in, both my coaches started clapping so I knew I won.  It felt really good to pull it out coming down the stretch I just needed to contain the nerves.  For the first time I felt really comfortable."

Someone else who felt comfortable is sophomore and Greenbrier Christian alum, Ashton Newsom. Newsom played one under on the last 36 holes.

"It was nice for a first tournament of the year.  My swing is back and after a long winter, my game is finally back," said Newsom who beamed a broad smile across his face.

Ashton loves the game of golf and loves hitting the ball a long way.

"I love just being out here," he said, "Getting away from school hitting the ball a long way and then watching it go in the hole.”

“Is it ever frustrating?” asked Rafferty.

"All the time,” he responded.

We asked Jamison how much is this a game against yourself and how much of it is against your opponent?

"It's 95% against yourself and 5% against your opponent.  It's hard to beat yourself,” he says.
