Sunshine, a chance for snow, and temperatures in the 60s… all three are in the forecast!

Let’s start with the sun… After three snowfalls this week, it seems Mother Nature has rewarded us with some sunshine to cap off the work week. Expect plenty of sunshine and just a few clouds mixing in for your Friday. Temperature today will be just about average for this time of year, in the low 50s. A nice, sunny, and “par” Friday. Not bad at all!

VIPIRcastNow to the snow… Yes, another chance. A fast moving area of low pressure (sometimes referred to as a “clipper system”) will move into the Mid-Atlantic on Saturday. We will likely see scattered rain showers during the day but snow could mix in later. Once the low moves through and gets into the Atlantic it is expected to strengthen and move up the coast line. Colder air will wrap in behind the low, winds will crank up, and we could see the rain shift to a rain/snow mix or all snow before the moisture moves out.  As of now, accumulation should be low, with most of Hampton Roads and NE NC seeing 0.1″ (a dusting) or less. Parts of the Middle Peninsula and Eastern Shore have a better chance to see more accumulation. As of this morning, 0.25″ to 0.5″ is possible.

Warm UpThen the climb to the 60s… It will be colder this weekend, with highs only in the 40s, but Monday will start a warming trend. Temperatures will climb for the first half the week, reaching 60 by Wednesday. A big pattern shift will usher in the warm up. The Jet Stream will lift to our north, carrying the cold air with it. It’s still a bit early to tell how long the warm up will stick around but at this point even one day is a good thing.
