In Chesapeake, a woman's body was found inside a home during a welfare check. It's now being investigated as a homicide.

It's the first Chesapeake homicide investigation of 2014, police say.

Neighbors saw Chesapeake investigators going in and out of a trailer on Sunday night, but didn't know why - until now.

"I saw a forensic truck from Chesapeake across the street, there was a whole lot of police out here, and I didn't know what happened," says a local resident.

Officers went to check on 40-year-old Stacey Velder after friends and family didn't hear from her in several days.

On Sunday, they found her body inside her mobile home in the 1400 block of Foxton Street.

An autopsy revealed she was murdered.

Chesapeake police will only say they have a person of interest in custody. That person was also known to the victim.

Neighbors say Velder recently moved in and lived with a man, but the two kept to themselves.

Several people living nearby are surprised by her death.

"It makes me feel less secure in my neighborhood, for one thing."
