Dominion Virginia Power crews have restored power to 326 customers near Route 17 and Ferry’s Mill Road. A wire fell, knocking out power at 3:05 a.m. Power was restored at 6:07 a.m.
Crews are working an outage in Franklin affecting around 275 customers. A wire is down that needs to be repaired.
Really cold weather can cause equipment to fail that holds up wire, says Bonita Harris of Dominion Virginia Power. That’s likely the case in these two situations, Harris says.
Power was restored in the Williamston area at 5:49 a.m. after one hour and 15 minutes.
In the last 24 hours, just over 6,000 customers have been affected by weather-related power outages at more than 100 work locations, Harris says. That includes nearly 4,000 customers in Ahoskie Wednesday morning, around 9:30 a.m.
Overall, Harris says the system has held up very well. Less than one percent of Dominion’s nearly 830,000 customers have been affected by outages. Dominion still has more than a dozen crews available day and night, ready to respond.
Dominion would like to thank everyone who’s been helping to conserve energy, especially during the peak hours of 6-10 a.m. and 5-9 p.m. Dominion believes those efforts helped crews restore power faster, easing the strain on the system. It’s always a good idea for consumers to conserve electricity when power supplies are tight during times of extreme temperatures.
