We’ve still got snow and ice on the ground from last week’s winter stormand we could have round two rolling in by the middle of this week. Or maybe not.

There are two main scenarios for what could happen in the Tuesday-Wednesday time period. All the major forecast models agree that we’ll have extremely cold air in place along the east coast and will see an area of low pressure develop in the Gulf of Mexico. Where it heads after that is the big question mark.

Scenario #1 brings the low across Florida, flirts with the Carolinas and then heads out the sea. In that case, we would feel very little direct impact from the storm.

Temporary 1

Scenario #2 could bring us a windy, wintry mess. In that case, the low would hug the coast and bring us significant snow and wind, especially across northeastern North Carolina. We’d likely see snowfall totals much higher than our last storm system.

Temporary 2

Will it be #1 or #2?  The forecast models continue to flip flop. Check back often as we continue to get new forecast data all the time.
