A total of 3,986 EPPICards have been canceled after the card data was breached during an incident that occurred at Target retail/grocery stores between November 27th and December 15th.

The Virginia Department of Social Services says the vendor for Virginia's EPPICard program blocked all affected cards on January 1st and as of that date, cardholders no longer had use of their cards or access to their funds.

The cards may include child support payments and Temporary Assistance for Needy Families benefits.

VDSS is working with Xerox and the Virginia Department of the Treasury to monitor the situation and keep affected cardholders informed.  Xerox is making automated calls to affected cardholders indicating the cards are being replaced and mailed today.  Xerox stated that VDSS customers will not be responsible for any fraud that occurs due to the theft of their information.

Customers can call EPPICard Customer Service at 800-961-8423 to obtain additional information.
