Hampton, Va. - Two people are now dead after a double shooting in Hampton occurred at a popular skate park on Mercury Blvd. and Woodland Road on New Year's Eve.

Police say calls came in about the shooting at around 3:57 p.m.

When officers arrived on the scene, they found two men had been shot in the upper torso. One person was dead on the scene and the other was rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. He was later pronounced dead at 4:46 p.m.

The victims have now been identified as Donivan K. Walker Jr., 21, and Kenneth J. Wilson, 20. Both men were from Hampton.

Police say during their preliminary investigation, they found that Walker and Wilson were shot during an altercation. They say the suspect left the skate park and came back with a gun, shot the two men and left the scene.

18-year-old Tia Middleton says losing Walker, her boyfriend of two years, doesn't feel real.

"He was a nice guy and he cares more than people thought he did. He loves his sisters and his nephews and his mom and his dad, and if you needed him he was going to be there for you," said Middleton.

Middleton admits Walker has gotten into trouble before. A search of the state's online court case system shows he's had several charges since 2010. But, Middleton says was been doing better.

"He wasn't as bad as everyone said he was. He wasn't a bad guy. He did stupid things all the time and I told him that too but he wasn't a bad guy," explained Middleton.

Police say the 16-year-old suspect got away on a moped then stole a Jeep Liberty a few minutes later on Newton Road. They say the suspect vehicle was found near Shelton Road and Grimes Road.

After a short pursuit, the 16-year-old was captured at the VA Medical Center at 4:19 p.m.

Still, Middleton says knowing the person believed to be responsible has been caught doesn't bring her any comfort.

"As much as people like to say that seeing the person who did it get in trouble makes things feel better, it doesn't because you still lost someone."

The teen suspect has been charged with first-degree murder, capital murder, grand larceny of a firearm, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, carjacking, evade and elude and possession of a firearm by a juvenile.

Police are still investigating this case.
