Virginia Beach, Va. (WTKR) - The winter cold may be settling in, but that isn't deterring work from going full-speed ahead on projects at the beaches of Sandbridge in southern Virginia Beach.

Currently, crews are working on construction of new public restrooms located next to the Sandbridge Marketplace.

The facility is being designed to be similar to the Grommet Park restroom built at the Oceanfront near Rudee Inlet.

In addition to restrooms, the project will also include shower and foot wash stations as well as walkways and decking to connect to the parking lot and Sandfiddler Road.

The project is expected to be completed by March, ahead of the tourist season.

Earlier this year, Virginia Beach expanded the parking lot at Little Island Park to accommodate additional visitors.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers also wrapped up a beach nourishment and replenishment project in Sandbridge.

Sandbridge beach replenishment nearly complete.

Virginia Beach Public Works has also designed and constructed new public beach accesses in Sandbridge since 2010.

The investments in Sandbridge are welcome news to those who live and work there.

"It’s just a great place to bring a family. You’ve got a playground. You’ve got wide beaches. It’s never as crowded – so whether you’re into surfing, swimming, whatever, it’s a great place to be," explained local Sam Leary.
