Holiday closings, adjusted schedules across Hampton Roads

Here is a list of adjusted schedules and holiday hours for cities across Hampton Roads:

Portsmouth

The Elizabeth River Tunnels (ERT) Customer Service Center in Portsmouth will open on a modified schedule in observance of the Christmas and New Year’s holidays.

Holiday hours are as follows:
• Tuesday, Dec. 24 – 7:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
• Christmas Day, Dec. 25 – CLOSED
• Tuesday, Dec. 31 – 7:00a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
• New Year’s Day, Jan. 1 – CLOSED

Regular hours are as follows:
• Monday – Friday: 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Virginia Beach

Virginia Beach City Public Schools and division offices will be closed beginning Monday, Dec. 23 for the Winter Holiday break. The division will resume regular operating hours on Thursday, Jan. 2.

Norfolk

The City of Norfolk’s government offices, including City Hall, recreation facilities, and Norfolk Public Libraries will be closed on Tuesday, December 24 and Wednesday, December 25, 2013 in observance of the holiday.

General District Court and Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court will be closed Tuesday, December 24 – Thursday, December 26, 2013.

All City offices and libraries will reopen at normal business hours on Thursday, December 26, 2013.

Recreation centers will operate under modified winter hours, 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday, December 23 – Friday, January 3, 2014. Computer resource centers will operate under modified hours Monday, December 23 – Friday, January 3, 2014; adult hours will be 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. and youth hours will be 2:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.

Circuit Court, the Commissioner of the Revenue and the Treasurer’s Office will be closed Monday, December 23 – Wednesday December 25, 2013 and will reopen on Thursday, December 26, 2013.

Norfolk’s government offices, recreation centers, and Circuit Court will also be closed Wednesday, January 1, 2014, in observance of the New Year holiday. Norfolk Public Libraries will be close at 5pm on Tuesday, December 31, 2013 and will be closed.

Wednesday, January 1, 2014. All offices and facilities will reopen Thursday, January 2, 2014 at normal business hours.

General District Court, Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court, the Commissioner of the Revenue and the Treasurer’s Office will be closed Tuesday, December 31, 2013 and Wednesday, January 1, 2014 in observance of the New Year holiday.

Refuse collection scheduled for Wednesday, December 25, 2013 has been rescheduled for Saturday, December 28, 2013. Requests for bulk waste collection for Saturday must be made before 3 p.m. on Friday, December 27 by calling The Norfolk Cares IMPACT Center at (757) 441-5813, or by filling out a request online http://www.norfolk.gov/requesttracker.aspx.

Beginning December 26, 2013, Christmas Trees (with all decorations completely removed) can be placed curbside for disposal on regular garbage pick-up days. Trees will also be accepted at the Waste Management facility at 1176 Pineridge Road, Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. The Division of Towing and Recovery will accept Christmas Trees beginning Thursday, January 2, 2014, 24-hours a day and seven days a week at the new location of 1188-A Lance Road.

Refuse and recycling services will occur as scheduled on New Year’s Day, Wednesday, January 1, 2014.

Chesapeake

Chesapeake City government offices, courts, public libraries, and community centers will follow modified schedules in observance of the Christmas and New Year’s holidays.

Monday, December 23 – Circuit Court and Circuit Court Clerk’s Office – CLOSED

Tuesday, December 24 – City offices, libraries, community centers – closing at noon; all courts and clerks’ offices – CLOSED

Wednesday, December 25 – City offices, libraries, community centers, and all circuit courts and clerks’ offices – CLOSED

Thursday, December 26 – Courts closed.

Tuesday, December 31 – City Offices Open Normal Hours; Libraries & Community Centers Closing @ 5:00 p.m.; Circuit Court Clerk’s Office Open Normal Hours; all courts closed.

Wednesday, January 1 – City Offices, Libraries, Community Centers, All Courts & Circuit Court Clerk’s Office – CLOSED

Normal operating hours for all City facilities and all courts resume on Thursday, January 2.

Trash Collection

Collections will be pushed back one day each week, to allow for the holidays:

City waste management crews will provide expanded trash collection services from December 26, 2013, through January 9, 2014. During the expanded collection, boxes and bagged trash left beside the automated containers will be collected during the regular pickup.

Wrapping paper and cardboard boxes may be recycled using the City’s blue collection bins. Bows and ribbons are NOT recyclable and should be disposed of with other household trash.

Suffolk

In observance of Christmas, Suffolk City offices will be closed Monday, December 23, 2013 through Wednesday, December 25, 2013. Normal operations will resume Thursday, December 26, 2013 at 8:30 a.m. The City observes all state-designated holidays. Christmas is considered a holiday for the Commonwealth of Virginia and all state offices are closed on these days.

The Suffolk Tourism Visitor Center will be closed Tuesday, December 24, 2013 and Wednesday, December 25, 2013. The Visitor Center will be open Monday, December 23, 2013 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Morgan Memorial Library, North Suffolk Library, and Chuckatuck Branch Library will be closed Monday, December 23, 2013 through Wednesday, December 25, 2013. These branches reopen at their normal times on Thursday, December 26, 2013.

The Suffolk Art Gallery will be closed Saturday, December 21, 2013 through Monday, January 6, 2014. “Suffolk Faces,” an exhibit featuring photography from Glen McClure, will be on display from January 7 through January 25, 2014.

All Suffolk Joint Use Recreation Centers (Mack Benn, Booker T. Washington, Creekside, Northern Shores, and Oakland) will be closed Tuesday, December 24, 2013 through Wednesday, December 25, 2013. Facilities will be open for scheduled youth league practices ONLY on Monday, December 23, 2013. The East Suffolk Recreation Center and Parks and Recreation Administration Offices will be closed Monday, December 23, 2013 through Wednesday, December 25, 2013. Suffolk’s four major parks – Lone Star Lakes, Constant’s Wharf, Sleepy Hole, and Bennett’s Creek will remain open during the holiday; however, no park attendant will be on duty.

The Suffolk Executive Airport terminal will be closed Monday, December 23, 2013 through Wednesday, December 25, 2013. The Airport will remain open to aviation traffic.

Trash normally scheduled for pickup on Wednesday, December 25 will be collected on Thursday, December 26. Trash normally scheduled for pickup on Thursday, December 26 will be picked up on Friday, December 27. Trash normally scheduled for pickup on Friday, December 27 will be picked up on Saturday, December 28. TFC Recycling will also follow the holiday schedule with a one day delay on normally scheduled routes. Suffolk Public Works Department reminds you that trash must be placed at curbside no later than 7 a.m. on the day of collection. From December 26, 2013 through January 8, 2014, the Suffolk Department of Public Works Refuse Division will collect all Christmas trees and boxes as a special collection. During these two weeks, Christmas trees and boxes will not be counted towards the 12 free special collections. Any Christmas trees put out for collection after January 8, 2014 will be picked up but will count as a special collection. The trees and boxes will need to be placed at the curb the same day as the residence’s regular collection. The trees do not have to be secured and the boxes do not have to be collapsed.

The Southeastern Public Safety Authority (SPSA) Transfer Station in Suffolk will be closed on Wednesday, December 25 and will resume regular operating hours on Thursday, December 26. The Regional Landfill will be closed Wednesday, December 25. The landfill will resume regular operating hours on Thursday, December 26. Additionally, the Regional Landfill will be closed on Saturday, December 28 and the Suffolk Transfer Station will be open from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m. (or until the City of Suffolk finishes refuse collection) on Saturday, December 28.

Hampton Roads

The Virginia Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) has released its store schedule for the upcoming holidays. The following applies to all ABC stores:

• All stores will close at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, December 24 (Christmas Eve).
*Two stores that normally close at 5 p.m., 2901 Hermitage Road, Richmond
and 4312-4314 Wheeler Ave., Alexandria will close at 5 p.m.
• All stores will be closed Wednesday, December 25 (Christmas Day).
• All stores will be closed Wednesday, January 1 (New Year’s Day).
For customer convenience, many stores throughout the state have extended holiday hours beginning this Friday, December 20. For store-specific holiday schedules, please contact your local ABC store.

North Carolina

Waste Management will make its normal curbside collection run in Corolla for trash and recycling on Thursday, Dec. 26, 2013. After Dec. 26, Bay Disposal Inc. will take over the trash and recycling collection service in Corolla.

Bay Disposal will collect trash and recycling for the communities on its Monday/Friday Schedule on Monday, Dec. 30, 2013.

Since New Year’s Day falls on a Wednesday, communities on the Wednesday/Saturday Schedule will be collected on Thursday, Jan. 2, 2014.

Beginning on Jan. 6, all collections will be made according to the 2014 Schedule, as is below.

2014 Regular Schedule – Currituck County and Bay Disposal Inc. have established a new schedule for the 2014 curbside collection of trash and recyclables in Corolla. Effective January 6, 2014, the collection schedule will be as follows for these communities:

Monday and Friday Service (In-season, May 1 to September 30):
• Buck Island, Corolla Light, Currituck Club, Pine Island, Spindrift, Ocean Sands South – Sections A, B and C, and remaining residences fronting N.C. 12 not included in communities listed below.
• Off-season, October 1 – April 30, pickup day will be Monday.
Wednesday and Saturday Service (In-season):
• Corolla Village, Crown Point, Monteray Shores, Ocean Hill, Ocean Sands – Sections D-Q, Villages at Ocean Hill, and the Whalehead subdivision.
• Off-season pickup day will be Wednesday.
