One month after NewsChannel 3 reported on a floating junkyard clogging up an Elizabeth River inlet in Norfolk, the City of Norfolk reports six have been removed.

Timothy Mullane, owner of the salvage yard in question, has removed the six derelict boats and says he will remove four more in the next month, including a 245-foot barge and a dredge vessel.

The city says Mullane has accepted ownership for nine more vessels. He says some of them will stay and some of them will be sold.

At least two of them, including the USS Zuni, featured in the movie “A Perfect Storm,” will be sunk as artificial reefs in the spring.

By then, neighboring property owners hope the inlet they share with Mullane will be significantly less cluttered.
