UPDATE: Body of man found in Newport News identified

UPDATE: Police officials tell NewsChannel 3 that the man found on the first block of Jefferson Avenue this afternoon has been identified as 56 year old Walter Richie, Jr.

Newport News, Va. – Police are investigating after an unidentified man’s body was found on the rocks in the first block of Jefferson Avenue in Newport News Saturday afternoon.

Police received the first call about the body around 12:45 P.M.

The man appears to be a light skinned black male in his 30s or 40s, about 5’10” to 5’11” tall with a slim to medium build and dark hair, according to police.

The victim was wearing blue with white stripe jogging pants over blue pajama pants, a white t-shirt, a blue Timberwolf sweat shirt over a blue pajama top and a blue and gray hoodie.

No identification was found, and there were no visible signs of trauma.

The body was transported to the Medical Examiner’s Office in Norfolk to determine cause of death.
