Portsmouth, Va. - Portsmouth police say 19-year-old Jahmel Haskett is armed and dangerous.

He's accused of robbing a man leaving a house on Turnpike Road.

Police say Haskett stood in the way of the victim leaving the porch while someone else grabbed his book bag.

The victim says there was a tug of war as they struggled to hold on to his backpack.

“At that point Haskett lifts his shirt up, displays a firearm and says in a roundabout way this isn't going to end well,” police say.

Police say the victim dropped his book bag and Haskett grabbed it and took off.

The victim was fortunate he wasn't hurt.

“There was a firearm involved.  And the victim could have been seriously injured if he decided, hey I'm not giving you my book bag,” police say.

Haskett is now charged with robbery and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.

The fugitive apprehension unit has been searching for him ever since the crime happened.

Now, they're hoping one of our NewsChannel 3 viewers will take action against crime.

“We don't need firearms on the street from someone who's going to take things from people.  So, it's very important to get Mr. Haskett arrested,” police say.

Police say Jahmel Haskett's last known address is on Peachtree Lane East in the Churchland neighborhood.
