Chesapeake home damaged in fire, man taken to hospital for smoke inhalation

Chesapeake, Va. – A fire in the Western Branch section of the city forced a family of four out of their home Sunday.

According to Captain Scott Saunders with the Chesapeake Fire Dept., firefighters were called to a home on Bruce Road shortly after 2 p.m.  There was heavy fire coming from the one-story home, which took firefighters about 35 minutes to get under control.

A man who lived in the house was taken to the hospital to be evaluated for smoke inhalation.  No one else was injured.

According to Saunders, the family is able to stay with relatives who live in the area.

The cause of the fire is still being investigated.
