Virginia Beach, Va. (WTKR) - Nearly 70 Virginia Beach based Virginia National Guardsmen are being activated for a deployment to Kuwait.

The 529th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, 329th Regional Support Group will serve in Kuwait in 2014 as part of Operation Enduring Freedom.

The soldiers, mostly from Hampton Roads, will begin serving on federal active duty on June 19, 2014. They'll first go to Fort Hood, Texas for mobilization training before heading overseas to Kuwait.

The deployment is expected to be about a year in length.

Once in Kuwait, the soldiers will provide logistics support.

"We are deploying to Kuwait and we’ll be tasked with providing logistics support for a lot of units that are stationed there right now," explained Unit Commander Maj. Michael Waterman.

"Anything from life support to transportation to supplies as well as maintenance."

This is the second deployment for the 529th since being formed in December 2006.
