Les Smith Reports: CNU poll shows McAuliffe over Cuccinelli

The race for governor in Virginia is getting stronger, heading into the final weekend before Election Day.

CNU’s poll of over 1,000 likely voters shows Democrat Terry McAuliffe with 45 percent to Republican Ken Cuccinelli with 38 percent.

Libertarian Robert Sarvis is holding strong at 10 percent with a vast majority of his supporters saying they’re a protest vote against McAuliffe and Cuccinelli.

The numbers show Cuccinelli closer than in some other polls – seven points behind McAuliffe with time running out.

Governor`s Race:

45% Terry McAuliffe (D)

38% Ken Cuccinelli (R)

10% Robert Sarvis (L)

The race for Attorney General continues to be the closest statewide race with 45 percent of likely voters going for Republican Mark Obenshain – a statistically insignificant two percent lead over Democrat Mark Herring’s 43 percent.

In the Lieutenant Governor’s race, Democrat Ralph Northam of Norfolk is maintaining his double-digit lead over Chesapeake’s E.W. Jackson – 51 percent to 35 percent.

The two candidates were on NewsChannel 3 Thursday night, appearing together for the final time before Election Day.
