Five adults and three children have been displaced after a fire tore through their Newport News home on Wednesday afternoon.

According to the Newport News Fire Department, crews arrived at the home in the 2000 block of Marshall Avenue at 2:39 p.m. to find smoke showing from the two-story single family home.

Firefighters entered the home and began an aggressive interior fire attack and started searching for occupants.

It was determined that all occupants were out of the home and the fire was under control in 10 minutes.

The fire was determined to be accidental in nature and was confined to the kitchen area.

The structure was condemned by Newport News Codes and Compliance due to the extent of the structure.

No one was injured. The Red Cross has been contacted but it is unknown if the family will require assistance.
