Fundraiser set up for Beach teen who died in house fire

Update: NewsChannel 3 has learned that 18-year-old Jade Alexis Mellenkamp has died in the hospital after a house fire in Virginia Beach on Wednesday, October 2. 

Officials say this is the 6th fire-related death this year. 

The family has now made arrangements for organ donation.

Virginia Beach, Va. - A mother and her two teens were rescued from a house fire in Virginia Beach in the early morning hours of October 2nd.

The fire in the two-story house on Millbrook Court began around 1:40am.

The fire ignited on the first floor somewhere near the front door in a part of the house where, fire officials say there were no smoke detectors.

A mother and a teenage boy and girl were inside the home at the time. The mother was rescued by ladder truck from the second floor.

An 18-year-old girl was rescued from the house in cardiac arrest. She was revived by paramedics and taken to a nearby hospital. She was later flown to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. Her condition is unknown at this time.

The teen boy was able to escape the home before firefighters arrived. Two dogs perished in the blaze. One died at the scene, the other passed away at an emergency vet.

A fund has been set up for the family: Mellencamp Recovery Fund

Jade was employed at the Salem Crossing Chick-fil-A and they have set up fundraiser to donate a portion of their sales on Thursday, October 10th from 5 to 8 p.m. to Jade's family to help with funeral expenses.
