Many government websites have gone dark or are not functioning at regular capacity amid the government’s shutdown.

Some feature splash pages notifying visitors of the shutdown while others feature a banner informing users that the pages may not feature current information.

According to the Washington Post, agencies were handed memos from the Office of Personnel Management saying that websites should show standard notices that it will be unavailable during the shutdown.  The memo also notes that if any part of an agency’s site remains accessible, it should post a notice that it may be out of date and information or inquiries submitted through the site may not be processed until after the shutdown. The memo also says that non-excepted sites are to shut down even if the cost of shutting them down is higher than maintaining them.
