Hampton Mayor Molly Ward appointed to White House post, will resign on Friday

Hampton, Va. – Hampton Mayor Molly Ward has been appointed to a post in the White House and will resign as mayor effective Friday, the city announced Monday afternoon.

A release from the city said Ward has been appointed as a Special Assistant to the President and Deputy Director for the Office of Intergovernmental Affairs.

In her new role Ward will lead White House engagement with mayors, county and municipal officials across the country.

Ward has served as mayor of Hampton for five years.

Prior to being elected mayor, she served as the city treasurer. She is an attorney and counsel with the law firm of McDermottWard, P.C.

The Hampton City Council will appoint her interim replacement.
