Newport News, Va. – A Newport News mother was arrested on Saturday after she was found unconscious in a motel hallway.

Police responding to a complaint about the woman at the Intown Suites motel on Jefferson Ave. found 25-year-old Heather Heikkila unconscious in front of an open motel room door.

A 17-month-old child was in the room in a crib. Heikkila regained consciousness after medics were called and refused medical attention. Police smelled a strong odor of marijuana in the room and found drugs after a search.

Child Protective Services placed the child, who was unharmed, with a family member and Heikkila was charged with Possession with Intent to Distribute Marijuana and Child Neglect.
