Virginia Beach, Va. – At Mount Trashmore today, people came together to fight a debilitating disease. The annual walk to defeat ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) was held this morning.

Families and friends of loved ones battling the disease or those who have passed from it, came together in the hopes of making a difference.

A.J. Kelleher's husband was a former Chesapeake firefighter who was diagnosed with ALS five years ago. She says that while it’s been challenging, his firefighting family has helped them along the way.

They are one of the many groups that came together today at Mount Trashmore to take part in the annual walk to defeat ALS.

The Frog Hollow Warriors were another group that participated in this year’s walk. They walked in memory of Mike Oyer, a Navy SEAL who passed away last year.

The group has participated in this walk for the past six years in an effort to fight the disease in his name.

While a cure for ALS has not been discovered as of yet, many families and friends will continue to support walks like these that promote awareness and fund critical research for this disease.
