Virginia Beach, Va. - Volunteers will take action to improve a local watershed Thursday afternoon, all by digging up and replanting grass.

The work will be done at Pleasure House Point in Virginia Beach, the same site where neighbors fought hard to keep a development from being built in that area and destroying the natural habitat.

The grass will help absorb runoff, protect nearby waterways and restore wildlife habitat - replanted not that far away from the Chesapeake Bay Foundation's Brock Environmental Center, which is being built on the property.

"These are kind of the building blocks to having a healthy ecosystem. And the more of this type of native habitat we can have on the site, this is a great opportunity for us to move it and improve other areas of the site.  And then [we'll] be able to have a much healthier ecosystem in the future," said Chris Moore, Hampton Roads Senior Scientist of the Chesapeake Bay Foundation.

Volunteers will be working at the site just off Shore Drive Thursday, September 5 from 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.  You can also take action and volunteer next Tuesday, September 10 from 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
