Virginia Beach, Va. - The Country Butcher and Deli is out of camel meat. That’s what a tweet from Virginia Beach Farmer’s Market said on Wednesday morning.

Come to find out, more and more people are showing up to try the exotic game, which the butcher is selling in camel patties for $15.99/pound or ground camel for $14.99/pound.

“We’ve got people waiting for it. We had a lady come in today, drove from Norfolk to come and get it. We didn't even know we were out. We sold the last pack right before she got in,” says Joseph Forwalt, who works at the deli.

Forwalt says a sailor gave them the idea.

“We had a Navy guy, a few of them come back from overseas. They tried it over there, they liked it and asked us if we could get it,” he says.

And since then, they haven’t been able to keep it on the shelves.

The last two cases sold out in just two days because everyone just wants to give it a try.

“A lot of people are trying it because it’s just something new,” Forwalt says, “It's a little gamey. It's like beef. But it's a little gamey almost like a lamb flavor at the end of your palette."

If you’re wanting to give it a try, you’re out of luck. It’s going to take another two weeks for the Country Butcher and Deli to get more meat.

“Kangaroo. We’re actually out of kangaroo. That sells really fast,” he says.

Now the butcher is also waiting on iguana meat, and he’s already got numbers for people who have ordered it in advance.
