Virginia Beach, Va. - Virginia Beach Police are searching for a violent felon who they say needs to go back to jail.

“We want to get someone like him back off the street so he doesn't commit a crime of a similar nature,” says Det. Catie Wilson with the Virginia Beach Police.

Back in April of 2000, Virginia Beach Police say David Hemperley robbed a victim at gunpoint.

It happened on 21st Street at the Oceanfront.

Police say he was found guilty and went to jail, but he was released before he served his full sentence.

“He was given a chance for probation versus a full sentence and he didn't abide by the conditions of his probation,” says Wilson.

Because of that probation violation, police are looking for Hemperley again.

The court can send him back to jail to serve the remainder of his sentence, but officers need to find Hemperley first.

Like most of the suspects the fugitive unit searches for, there aren't many leads.

“We don't have a lot of information on somebody.  We might have an old address.  We don't have work information.  We've exhausted all of our leads, so they ask for the assistance of the Crime Solvers Program,” says Wilson.

Police say Hemperley should be considered armed and dangerous.

They're worried he could strike again.

“Although we're talking about a case that happened in 2000, that does not mean he has not looked for other ways or victimized other people we don't know about,” says Wilson.
