Norfolk, Va. - After a lifetime of working his way up the ranks within the Norfolk Sheriff's Office, Chief Deputy Norman Hughey is now off the job after he was busted for soliciting a prostitute last week.

Norfolk police arrested Hughey on Northampton Boulevard after he left work Friday afternoon.

Hughey is now at home on personal leave until an internal investigation is done and Sheriff Bob McCabe decides if he still has a job.

Hired in 1979, Hughey is one of the longest serving deputies in Norfolk. In 2002, he was promoted to major in charge of corrections, then Chief of Operations in 2006. In 2011, Hughey became the number two in charge, promoted to his current position as Chief Deputy.

NewsChannel 3 reached out to Hughey at his home, but he did not want to comment.  He is scheduled to be in court September 13.
