Norfolk, Va. (WTKR) -Back to school is just around the corner, but for rising 6th graders in Virginia, their first day could be sidelined if they don't have a required immunization.

In Norfolk last school year, more than 900 students were unable to start school on time because of late immunizations. Most of those students were rising 6th graders in need of TDAP boosters.

The Norfolk Department of Public Health as well as other health departments in Hampton Roads are Taking Action to make sure students are ready by offering free TDAP booster shots at special clinics.

If your child still needs to get this vaccination, NewsChannel 3 compiled this list of locations in Hampton Roads offering the shots from the websites of Public Health Departments.

VIRGINIA BEACH:

The Virginia Beach Health Department will provide free Tdap vaccinations for rising Virginia Beach sixth graders on Aug. 29, from 9 a.m. to noon, at 4452 Corporation Lane.

Tdap shots are also available through the Virginia Beach Health Department’s immunization clinic. Please call (757) 518-2700 for clinic days and times. A current shot record for the child is also required if vaccinations are provided through the Health Department’s clinic.
