Hampton, Va. - Little Kamryn and Willie are still recovering from their brush with death. They were two tiny victims of what appears to be a random shooting in a Hampton neighborhood.

Right now, police do not have a motive or a suspect. They do not know who the intended target was but they are sure it was not the children.

But Detective Kimberly Gardin says just one small tip could help them find the shooter.

That's why she turned to NewsChannel 3, asking our viewers to take action against crime.

“Without help, we're not going to be able to solve this crime. These children deserve justice for what's happened to them.  At 5-months-old, if it had been a quarter inch lower, he wouldn't be here now,” says Gardin.

A bullet cracked 5-month-old Willie's skull.

He and his 1-year-old brother, Kamryn, are at home recovering after being hit by stray bullets two weeks ago in the yard of a Park Place home.

“Bullets have no names. We've had people die inside of homes. This could have been anybody's home, anybody's neighborhood,” says Gardin.

The kids’ mother, Loretta Butler, is still in shock.

“Every time I look at them, it hurts me inside. To see my kids go through something terrible like that... I`ve never thought in a million years that it would be my kids,” says Butler.

Detective Gardin took NewsChannel 3 back to the scene of the crime.

She said the shooter casually walked away after firing.

Detective Gardin hopes someone who has heard something will take action and call the Crime Line.
