Virginia Beach, Va. (WTKR) - The City of Virginia Beach is looking at some temporary fixes to alleviate chronic flooding along Shore Drive.
The city says the fixes could include new pipe valves, flood gates or new storm water pump stations in the area between the Lesner Bridge and First Landing State Park.
Tommy Neathery lives off Shore Drive and sees the flooding happen anytime it rains heavily.
"Even if any rain comes down pretty hard, it floods pretty quickly here," Neathery explained.
The City says the fixes they are proposing are meant to be interim solutions until a more comprehensive and permanent plan starts construction.
That permanent plan is budgeted for, but the initial phases wouldn't begin until at least 2016.
Virginia Beach estimates that the interim fixes would directly protect 5 houses, 15 garages and 570 linear feet of roadway at a cost of $1.2 million dollars.
City Council would still have to approve the plan.
