Virginia Beach, Va. - In Virginia Beach, police are looking into a shooting that happened last night on Gladstone Drive.

They think it may have been a robbery attempt.

It happened in the middle of a neighborhood around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday night.

NewsChannel 3 spoke to the victim today about what happened. He says he was just outside with some friends having an early Fourth of July celebration, when he was shot.

"It all happened within 10 or 20 seconds or so, it was all quick."

Just like that - this victim, who asked not to be identified - went from spending time with friends - to spending time at the hospital.

He was shot in the thigh - the bullet is still inside him.

It happened on Gladstone Drive - in a neighborhood off of South Rosemont Road.

The victim says he was with a few other people enjoying some time outside, when two men walked up to them.

From there he's not exactly sure what happened - he heard them say something, but doesn't know what.

The next thing he knew, the men were running down the street, turned around and fired, hitting him.

"I felt my leg go a little bit numb, I didn't feel nothing after that until I tried to step on it."

He was taken to the hospital. Today, he says he's doing okay, getting around with the help of a cane.

"At this point I'm just glad to be alive, glad to be able to walk around."

But there are still a lot of questions about why this happened.

The victim says he's never seen the men before - and he's never had problems in this neighborhood.

Police say it may have been an attempted robbery.

"It is scary, there are a lot of kids that live around here. I think someone across the street owns a childcare, I got little kids around here everywhere in my neighborhood, it's real scary, real sad for that to happen."

Police have not identified any suspects and the victim says it was too dark to get a very good look at the men.
