Eisenhower Carrier Strike Group headed back to Norfolk

The Eisenhower Carrier Strike Group departed the U.S. Fifth Fleet area of responsibility on June 13 after spending three months operating with and supporting U.S. Naval Forces Central Command.

IKECSG consists of Dwight D. Eisenhower, guided-missile cruiser USS Hue City, German frigate FSG Hamburg and Destroyer Squadron 28.

The IKECSG redeployed back to the U.S. Fifth Fleet AOR in March 2013 after departing in November 2012 and spending two months training and performing maintenance on the ships in Norfolk.

According to the Navy, IKECSG conducted maritime security operations, theater security cooperation engagements, and command and control support operations for coalition forces in Afghanistan while in the Arabian Gulf and North Arabian Sea.

Aviators from embarked Carrier Air Wing 7 flew 1,362 sorties and more than 8,033 flight hours in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

While in the AOR, the IKECSG team conducted 32 replenishment-at-sea evolutions moving more than 10,000 pallets of cargo, traveled more than 17,000 nautical miles, and had port calls to the Kingdom of Bahrain and Jebel Ali, United Arab Emirates.
